Dreams Are The Reason We Live

“I cannot think of anything better to do with my life.” – David Wood

We needed to make a stop between Taichung and Puli; and our Couchsurfing attempt landed ourselves in Cao Tun, at David’s house. David’s couch was the only couch available at Cao Tun, a really really tiny township. What piqued us more was, “What is a Caucasian doing in a tiny town like Cao Tun?”

Your spare change, even if it’s just $1, would help us go further

Have you had moments in life when you were simply moved?
By a piece of drawing, by a song, by a rhythm, by the colours jumping off the streets…
It didn’t matter whether you knew the artist, the lyrics to the song, or the language even
You were, quite simply
moved
And in that one moment you allowed yourself to be moved
You came home

Perhaps it was David’s soft-spokeness
That we had no choice but to listen more intently
That even though the lyrical beauty that was flowing out of David
Was sometimes hard to catch, decipher or comprehend
We were, still
quite simply
moved

In that moment
All of us listening in
All 4 (David, Koh, Val and Tay) of us who are faraway from home
Came home

To all the seekers out there, seeking
To the people chasing “what-ifs”
If we were to listen
Intently
If we were to allow
and be moved

Perhaps we’d find that one thing we’d rather do
Perhaps we’d find the reason to wake up each day
Perhaps we’d find the passion and beauty in life
And perhaps, like David
We’d all come home

David sharing his poems with us
“It was such a joy to be able to listen. To simply listen. And the be filled with awe, with hope, with stories…and be moved. Listening to David, it reminded me, that we are not alone on this faraway journey. And it made me thankful for this heart-to-heart sharing.” – Val

David's Handwritten Poems
“I was never one who can appreciate or understand English literature and its flowery language. Yet, when David shares his poems, his short stories, he shares them from a much deeper place within his soul. And that touches me – it was as if I was there, with the genuine emotions and feelings behind each and every word shared.” – Tay
